Health Integration Team for stroke – launching next week
Bristol After Stroke is proud to join Rosetta Life and the Stroke Association for the launch of the Bristol Health Partners Stroke Health Integration Team on Thursday 15th November 2018 2.00-7.00pm at Circomedia, Portland Square, Bristol, BS2 8SJ
The Stroke Health Integration Team (HIT) brings together clinicians, commissioners, academics, care and support providers and other experts, and people who have had strokes and their families and carers. The Stroke HIT is committed to preventing strokes and improving the lives of people affected by stroke through working together beyond the limits of individual organisations, in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). The HIT recognises that local stroke prevention, treatment and care services need to be improved and to be more accountable to local patients, carers and the public. We at Bristol after stroke are also proud to report the engagement of two of our most committed volunteers - Stephen Hill and Claire Angell - as representatives of service user perspectives on the HIT.
Highlights of the launch day will include:
- Photo exhibition by people affected by stroke
- Virtual reality demonstrations
- The premiere of the film Getting Home which follows local stroke survivors on their road to recovery
- Market place – local support, activities and research showcase
- Stroke Ambassadors’ café
- Presentation: What is the Stroke Health Integration Team? (2.30pm, 5.30pm) Richard Lyle, Associate Director for Service Redesign at BNSSG Clinical Commissioning Group, will talk about plans for transforming stroke services in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG)
- Update on the local Stroke Care Pathway review
- Rapid presentations – what the HIT does: improving care; education and training; research and evaluation
Local boxer Dan Sarkozi, who experienced a stroke at the age of 28 just before the biggest fight of his career, will be at the event. He is campaigning to get patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure operations funded by the NHS. PFO is a type of congenital hole in the heart and holes in the heart are the leading cause of stroke among younger people.
Photo Exhibition
As part of the launch event there will be a photo exhibition. If you've been affected by stroke, please send in photos of what makes you smile and helped you during recovery. It could be a special place, people or things that have inspired you…
To submit a photo for the exhibition, please contact Emily Dodd on [email protected] or 0117 328 7496. There is no deadline so if you want to bring along a photo to the event to add to the show, please do!
