This month we have been nominated by our friend Georgina Binks as Quizzing for Causes charity of the month - May.
Quizzing for Causes messaged us and said - Georgina inspires us in so many ways and her recent experience explains exactly what Bristol AfterStroke do and why they are so very important. Thank you so much for sharing Georgina, for your bravery and honesty to help others!
Here is Georgina's story:
This time last year I suffered a Stroke due to a neck injury, ironically in May (stroke awareness month)
Being just 28 years old, I’m sure you can imagine this came as a huge shock to me and my family, especially my 3 young children! Watching mummy learning to walk again was very hard for them to understand.
Bristol After Stroke have given me and my family so much help and support over this past year and continue to do so,
I’ve received home visit counselling sessions that has helped me to come to terms with the altered sensations, and mobility issues I have been left with.
My Stroke support coordinator has also visited me at home, matched me with a buddy nearby who has a similar experience to me, and stays in touch regularly to check in on me, they also offer monthly Cafe’s, weekly groups, and short courses for rehabilitation, emotional and psychological support.
Bristol AfterStroke work closely with other local services and groups offering complementary support, as well as health professionals, therefore were able to find resources to help my children understand what had happened to their mummy and Stroke recovery.
I thank Bristol AfterStroke for helping me live life after a Stroke
