Bristol After Stroke simply could not operate without the untiring commitment of our volunteers. They don't just help run our groups, café sessions and courses but they provide friendship and encouragement to our clients and assist the vital work of fundraising and publicity.
What they do directly affects the lives and recovery of the people who have suffered a stroke, as well as help their carers and families.
And right now we have several vacancies we really need to fill!
Activities and Group Volunteer - Lyde Green
We are looking to recruit a new volunteer to support our Lyde Green group in South Glos. The group takes place weekly with two cohorts that meet bi-weekly. The group takes place on a Wednesday afternoon and does a range of activities to support with stroke recovery and wellbeing.
Activities and Group Volunteer - Portway
We are looking to recruit a new volunteer to support our Portway group in Shirehampton.
The group, which takes place weekly on a Thursday afternoon, needs someone who is friendly and encouraging to support with physical activities such as Skittles as well as other activities and games to aid physical and cognitive recovery, to rebuild confidence.
South Glos Stroke Cafe - Downend
We are looking to recruit more volunteers at our monthly South Glos Stroke Cafe in Downend which takes place on the 2nd Thursday of each month.
Our Stroke Café Volunteers provide help and support to our Stroke key worker who runs a monthly drop-in café. The café gives people affected by stroke the opportunity to meet others affected by stroke, hear informative talks, meet staff and volunteers as well as find out more about the services Bristol After Stroke provide and arrange for further contact.
We are looking for a volunteer who is able to help with the physical task of moving tables and a volunteer who can help serve refreshments.
Why volunteer?
Some volunteers have had strokes themselves, adding experience and empathy to the role. Many of our clients volunteer with us, giving back to a service that has helped them.
Volunteering can also present a good opportunity to gain valuable experience to help you in the job market or with a specific career goal.
It can also prove to be a lot of fun – and a great way to make new friends!
