Harnessing IT to improve our services for clients and supporters is now a major priority for Bristol After Stroke, and our newest trustee is just the person to help us achieve that!
Richard Corfield is currently based in London and working as Senior Technical Information Manager for a charity called ShareAction, which works globally to encourage ethical investment. As he describes it, “We’re campaigning and going to AGMs, putting forward proposals on issues such as sustainability, the living wage and healthy food.”
How did it all start? “I was always good with computers,” Richard says, “and my then girlfriend, now wife, suggested I apply for an IT role at a victim support charity.”
After some other IT roles, and a six month tour of South East Asia (including a very weird four days in North Korea!), he went on to become Head of IT at The RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce), before moving on to the Royal College of Radiologists - so he is well versed in the charity world.
“But,” he says, “I have worked my up through the Microsoft technical path where I developed strong problem-solving abilities and a knack for figuring out how to get things done.”
Says BAS CEO Rebecca Sheehy: “When we started recruiting for new trustees, near the top of our wish list was someone who could help us navigate the constant challenges that IT throws up for us as a small charity without someone full time on board. We’re absolutely thrilled to have Richard on board!”
